Medical Research

The Cardiovascular Medical Research and Education Fund (CMREF) was created as a non-profit fund operated solely for charitable, scientific and educational purposes. The CMREF mission is the support of research to uncover the etiology and pathogenesis of idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH, or PPH), in pursuit of the ultimate goal of its treatment and cure.

Specifically, the mission of the fund is to support education activities that will enhance the knowledge of pulmonary hypertension, and research projects that may help uncover the causes and pathogenesis of idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH), in pursuit of the ultimate goal of its treatment and cure.

Announcements:

  • The members of the CMREF are sad to report the passing of Robyn Barst, MD, on April 19, 2013. She was an original member of the CMREF Research Advisory Committee and helped guide the CMREF in its mission to find treatments, prevention and cure for pulmonary hypertension. Her contributions to the field were enormous.
  • In response to the Request for Proposals on “Studies of the Right Ventricular Response to Therapy in Patients with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension” the CMREF has awarded the grant to Dr. Yuchi Han and colleagues from The University of Pennsylvania for their project entitled “Targeting metabolism to reverse RV dysfunction in PAH”.
The RV RFA program is closed for applications.
